Another Top Seed Misses Out On A State Trip

Game #138, a personal record, as I make the trip to Elk River for the 7AAAA final between Blaine and Forest Lake. Forest Lake with the big regular season win but Blaine is hot right now. Big Forest Lake student section (and a disappointing Blaine one). Gotta love the spelling of "Go Rangers" on the front row of students (1 letter per shirt). We even have the band directors having a discussion as both bands are playing at the same time. No police required for that one though. All of the likely 4 seeds at state in the building taking this one in as they have the chance to draw the winner of this game.

Section 5AAAA Semifinal Cooper 82 - Champlin Park 73

Cooper, Osseo win in section hoops.

Many fans and players at Cooper and Osseo have been thinking about the possibility of their outstanding boys basketball teams matching up in the postseason pretty much since the season started.Someone forgot to tell Champlin Park.

The Rebels, the No. 4 seed in Section 5AAAA, had the lead for most of the night against top seed Cooper before falling in overtime 82-73 in the first semifinal game in the section.
Scott Theisen bombed in seven three pointers and scored 25 points for Champlin Park, while Kyle Zimmerman had 21.

Cooper stepped up its defense late and fought back to gain the win, outscoring the Rebels 14-5 in overtime. Joe Bright had 33 for the Hawks, with Kenquane Brown chipping in 21 points and Freddie Burton 14.

Osseo advances past Roseville

No. 2 seed Osseo was in control most of the way against No. 6 seed Roseville, but the Raiders stayed close enough to make it interesting. Gonzaga recruit Sam Dower had 26 to lead Osseo, while Bucknell recruit Mike Muscala had 23 for Roseville in a matchup of talented 6'9" players.
Nick Djerf added 13 and Bobby Fischer 11 for Osseo.

You can watch the Cooper-Champlin Park game Wednesday at 8:30 and 11 p.m. Wednesday on Comcast Channel 12 in the northwest suburbs and at http://www.twelve.tv/.

The Osseo-Roseville game airs Thursday at 8:30 and 11 p.m.
The section final, Osseo vs. Cooper, is Friday at 7 p.m. at Rogers High School.
